Alumni meet in Tennessee to cover motorsports history
It was 20 years since the high-banked concrete surface of famed Bristol Motor Speedway was covered with dirt. Earlier in the spring of 2021, 23,000 cubic yards of clay and sawdust were placed on top of the Tennessee oval that is best known as a stop for NASCAR's premier racing series.
The new surface attracted "The Greatest Show on Dirt" as the World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series put on a three-day show that had track speed records being shattered by the 900-horsepower winged sprint cars.
Two Penn Staters — classmates who earned their telecommunications degrees in 1998 — were there covering the action at "The Last Great Colosseum" and they met up along pit road for a photo.
Jarred Romesburg of RMG Sports was working as a freelance camera operator for DIRTVision.com's live stream of the three-day event.
Brad Jones from SSD Production Group was producing a behind-the-scenes show about racing in Bristol for CBS.
