Dean's Message

Embracing opportunities and supporting students

I am thankful that during the Fall 2022 semester, we were able to interact in person as we haven’t been able to do for the past two years. It’s been liberating and exciting to see the students engaging in all the Bellisario College has to offer!

That includes “Centre County Report,” our twice-weekly newscast that goes out to 500,000 homes in 29 counties across the state. It’s also available in Pittsburgh on KDKA-TV’s streaming channel and in Philadelphia on KYW-TV’s streaming channel. The newscast has won numerous regional and national awards and has been named the best college newscast in the nation five times in the past 10 years.

Many students arrive at Penn State with the goal to be part of the CCR team, which is advised by Steve Kraycik, an award-winning teacher with decades of professional experience. I get my local and campus news each week from CCR, which also streams on YouTube, and I love visiting the studio to see the team in action! My husband, Jerry, and I were there as the students wrapped up the semester with their final broadcast.

The Bellisario Media Center enables our students to move seamlessly between the CCR studios, our open newsroom, and our other student-run enterprises. I’m reminded, every time I’m in the media center, of you — our supportive alumni and friends.

It is you who have opened the doors for our CCR students and many others. The evidence is everywhere, including in the names on the “digital bricks” on a large monitor near the center’s front door, signifying gifts toward our equipment and technology fund. I always enjoy seeing the names on that screen, reminding me of the many alumni and friends who are behind our success.

Thank you for your generosity and shared vision. I cherish your friendship and support.

My best wishes for the new year!
